I.T. Radio: John Ryan
Following a 30-minute mix from Scott Zacharias, a legendary rock & roll raver from Detroit explores the connections between punk and disco.
John Ryan, the man behind Detroit monthly Disco Sludge Factory, has been part of the extended Interdimensional Transmissions family for decades. A notorious denizen of the city’s ’90s rave scene, Ryan is known for bringing a wayward rock & roll sensibility to the dancefloor, as a founding member of electro duo and Syst3m mainstays Spacelings & Bassheads and as longtime alter ego Dr. Disko Dust, one third of darkly propulsive supergroup Ze Dark Park, with Ian Clark (Le Car, Perspects, Looky Looky) and Ron Zakrin (Goudron). On today’s episode, which opens with a 30-minute mix from No Way Back’s Outer Space Room secret weapon Scott Zacharias, we’ll join Ryan in exploring some of the unsung connections between punk and disco, from Johnny Thunders deep cuts to ’70s glam-rock stompers. True counterculture from a real connoisseur.
