I.T. Radio: Koltay
The veteran Detroit-based recording engineer performs an ambient modular set and talks influences with BMG and Erika.
Chris Koltay’s fingerprints are all over rock and electronic music in Detroit over the last 15 years. Many Motor City bands like the Dirtbombs and SSM, as well as Shigeto and his Portage Garage Sound crew, have all recorded in his hand-built recording studio, High Bias Recordings. Koltay is a highly regarded recording engineer who has worked extensively with Akron/Family, Deerhunter, War on Drugs and My Morning Jacket; he’s also lent his audio mastery to Detroit venues like El Club and events like Trip Metal Fest. More recently, he’s applied his knowledge of engineering to modular synthesis. On this episode of Interdimensional Transmissions, Koltay will be live in our Red Bull Radio studios with BMG and Erika, talking about his influences and treating us to an ambient modular performance. Erika will open the show with a 30-minute mix of her own ambient selections.
