"No Way Back is an extremely special place for me. It’s rare that I feel the freedom to cut loose and play 100% from my heart and gut, corralling so many disparate genres into a single 90-minute musical thread, but it’s even more rare that you get to do that sort of thing in front of a packed, screaming crowd who wants me to do exactly that.

Because it’s so special in that way, every year I push myself to play different music and make specific edits specifically for the occasion, and this set from 2025 was no different. I played 6 of my own edits that I hadn’t played before, and there were a ton of beautiful crowd moments as a result.

This set was also a bit different because I challenged myself to bookend the set with Aleksi Perala and Aphex Twin tracks, filling the middle with even more disco than usual, all while ramping up the tempo to set up BMG’s techno wormhole. Overall, I think it draws a solid connection between where the party started and where it is now, and I hope these sentiments come across to both NWB attendees and the audience at home." — Patrick Russell
